OUR STORY.

The Matter of The Heart was founded over six years ago with a mission to uplift and support deployed soldiers and returning veterans. Since then, it has impacted over 3,000 individuals, extending its reach to homeless and underserved communities. What began as a small initiative has grown into a structured nonprofit dedicated to mental health advocacy, career development, and wellness support.

We envision a society where all individuals—regardless of their circumstances—have access to the resources, support, and opportunities they need to lead fulfilling, independent lives.

MEET THE VISIONARY.

Beverly Elliott is a distinguished medical administrator with more than 15 years of dedicated experience in the realm of healthcare administration. Currently, she serves with distinction in the Medical Evaluation Board Department at the 633 Medical Group on Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Hampton, Virginia. In her role, Beverly excels in patient reception, records management, and administrative support, where her exceptional skills shine.

Renowned for her meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment to patient care, Beverly plays a vital role in ensuring the seamless operation and high-quality service delivery of her department. Her impressive journey in healthcare began with a solid academic foundation, having earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Information Management Systems from Norfolk State University. Her passion for helping others, combined with an exceptional ability to navigate complex environments, has been instrumental in her professional growth.

 

Over the years, Beverly has cultivated a reputation for her outstanding organizational skills, empathy, and her ability to handle sensitive patient information with the utmost confidentiality. These attributes have not only made her a respected leader among her colleagues but also a trusted resource for patients in need.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Beverly is a passionate advocate for mental health awareness, actively participating in community initiatives that support those in need. She spearheads the Pink Friday Affair, encouraging everyone to wear pink on every Fridays in October to raise awareness for breast cancer. Additionally, Beverly organizes the collection and donation of toiletry items for the Newport News Police Department & Domestic Violence Unit, and she orchestrates the office holiday luncheon that fosters camaraderie among her peers.

 

Beverly's calm demeanor and empathetic nature have established her as a beacon of support for both colleagues and patients alike. When she’s not making a difference in the healthcare sector, Beverly volunteers at local shelters, indulges in mystery novels, and cherishes quality time with her family.

Currently Residing in Newport News, Virginia, Beverly is also the Visionary/Founder and Executive Director of The Matter of The Heart, Inc. For the past six years, she has driven this community project to gather over 3,000 care packages for soldiers, demonstrating her commitment to giving back. The Matter of the Heart aims to provide a judgment-free environment for soldiers, as well as support for underserved and at-risk homeless populations. Her dynamic work in the community reflects her deep desire to uplift others, striving to help one family at a time.

Beverly Elliott continues to inspire those around her, embodying dedication, compassion, and the spirit of service that propels both her career and her community endeavors as she furthers her mission to provide a powerful transformative journey for constituents underserved communities.
